UNN Trends as Accountancy Produces Highest First Class Graduates Amid CBT Exam Cancellation Over Alleged Fuel Shortage

The University of Nigeria has come under intense public attention following two major developments involving academic performance and examination logistics within the institution.

According to reports surrounding the university’s recently released graduation list, the Department of Accountancy at the Enugu Campus (UNEC) recorded the highest number of First Class graduates among all departments and faculties.

The department reportedly produced 21 First Class graduates, representing nearly 45 percent of the total First Class degrees awarded across the seven faculties within the campus. The achievement has attracted praise from students, alumni, and academic observers who described the performance as remarkable.

Law and Business Management reportedly followed with eight First Class graduates each, further highlighting the competitive academic environment within the institution.

Meanwhile, another development that generated reactions among students was the reported cancellation of the Maths 101 Computer-Based Test (CBT) examination on Sunday, May 18, 2026.

According to reports from affected candidates, the examination was allegedly suspended because the institution could not provide sufficient fuel or diesel to power generators needed to run the CBT systems.

The development sparked reactions among students and social media users, many of whom expressed concern over infrastructural and power supply challenges affecting academic activities in federal institutions.

Some students lamented the inconvenience caused by the sudden postponement, especially for candidates who reportedly traveled long distances and made financial sacrifices to participate in the examination.

The incident has also reignited broader conversations about funding, infrastructure, electricity challenges, and the state of educational facilities in public universities across Nigeria.

Despite the controversy, many students and supporters of the institution continue to celebrate the impressive academic achievements recorded by graduating students, especially within the Department of Accountancy.
