Nigeria Advances Clean Energy Agenda as Vice President Shettima Commissions BARECKS and Green Hydrogen Research Facility

Vice President Shettima Commissions Barefoot Renewable Energy College and Green Hydrogen Research Facility in Kogi

The commissioning of the Barefoot Renewable Energy College (BARECKS), alongside the Green Hydrogen Research Centre and Solar Plant in Osara, Kogi State, marks another significant milestone in Nigeria's drive toward a sustainable and technology-driven energy future.

The event, graced by Kashim Shettima, underscores the Federal Government's commitment to accelerating the country's clean energy transition through strategic investments in renewable energy, research, innovation, and human capital development.

BARECKS is designed to serve as a centre of excellence for training skilled professionals in renewable energy technologies, equipping young Nigerians with the knowledge and practical expertise required to meet the demands of the evolving global green economy. The accompanying Green Hydrogen Research Centre and Solar Plant will strengthen research capacity, promote indigenous innovation, and support Nigeria's quest for energy security while reducing carbon emissions.

These landmark projects align with the Renewed Hope Agenda's vision of fostering sustainable economic growth, expanding access to clean energy, creating employment opportunities, and positioning Nigeria as a leading player in Africa's renewable energy sector.

The commissioning represents more than the inauguration of physical infrastructure—it symbolizes a strategic investment in the nation's future, where innovation, environmental sustainability, and technological advancement become key drivers of national development.

As Nigeria continues its transition toward cleaner energy sources, initiatives such as BARECKS will play a pivotal role in building a resilient, knowledge-based economy capable of competing on the global stage.
