Teachers, Students and Labour Unions Stage Nationwide Protests Over Abducted Oyo Schoolchildren and Teachers

Public concern over the abduction of dozens of schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State has sparked demonstrations across several parts of Nigeria, with teachers, students, and labour unions demanding immediate action from authorities.

In Oyo State, representatives of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Nigeria Union of Teachers, and Nigeria Labour Congress led a protest to the Oyo State Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan.

Following the demonstration, Seyi Makinde met with the protesters and assured them that federal, state, and local authorities were working together to secure the safe return of the abducted victims.

According to the governor, the government remains committed to protecting residents and is open to suggestions aimed at strengthening security across the state.

Meanwhile, reports from Ogun State indicate that demonstrators gathered around the Government House, demanding stronger action to rescue the abducted students and teachers. The protests reflected growing public frustration over insecurity and concerns for the welfare of the victims.

In Lagos, teachers and supporters reportedly staged demonstrations in parts of Ikeja, calling for the immediate release of those in captivity and greater protection for schools across the country.

Similar expressions of solidarity were also reported in Port Harcourt, where protesters joined calls for urgent intervention.

The demonstrations come amid increasing pressure on security agencies and government officials to secure the release of the abducted victims and prevent future attacks on educational institutions.

Labour leaders and education stakeholders have warned that attacks on schools pose a serious threat to the country's educational system and could discourage parents from sending their children to school if decisive action is not taken.

As efforts to rescue the victims continue, many Nigerians are urging authorities to intensify security operations and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
