Discrepancy Sparks Outrage: Enugu State Accused of Paying Medical Corpers N892 Despite Praised Allowance Increases

Severe backlash has erupted across social media platforms following evidence that Enugu State is allegedly paying a monthly allowance as low as N892.50 to certain serving corps members, despite public assurances of an upward review in welfare packages.

The controversy gathered momentum after a Vanguard Newspaper report, shown in detailed that the NYSC Director-General had lauded Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, for increasing general corps members' monthly allowances to N20,000. Furthermore, the state government had reportedly committed to paying medical doctors N80,000 and nurses N40,000 monthly to incentivize healthcare delivery during their service year.

However, a leaked transaction receipt from an Access Bank account, tells a starkly different story.

Transaction Date: May 8, 2026.

Credit Amount: NGN 892.50.

Transaction Description: Explicitly references "NYSC ENU ST JAN 2", pointing directly to an Enugu State NYSC allowance allocation.

The massive gap between the promised N20,000 to N80,000 flat rates and the actual N892.50 received has left young professionals, particularly in the medical field, feeling deeply betrayed.

The stark reality of receiving an accumulated sum of roughly N10,700 for a whole year of labor has drawn sharp condemnation from prospective and serving corps members. Many have taken to social media to warn incoming youth corpers—especially medical professionals—to actively avoid being deployed to Eastern states if they value fair wages.

"These folks have no conscience," one frustrated medical corper stated. "How the hell are you paying medical corpers 20k, let alone this insult of 892 naira? You can't make my life miserable for a year and expect me to let it slide. This is the making of a villain."

The financial strain of the current economic climate makes the sub-N1,000 payout practically unlivable. Observers and labor rights advocates are now urging the Enugu State Government to clear the air on whether this transaction represents a systemic clerical error, an unannounced deduction, or a failure to implement the heavily publicized allowance increases.
