Uche Nnaji Raises Concerns over Enugu's Revenue Utilization, calls for Greater Accountability and Economic Reforms

Former Minister and prominent political figure, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, has raised concerns over the management of funds received by the Enugu State Government under the administration of Governor Peter Mbah, alleging that more than ₦1 trillion has accrued to the state within the last three years without corresponding developmental impact.

Speaking to journalists on Friday been 12th of June at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, Nnaji maintained that no administration in the state since the return of democratic governance in 1999 had received such a significant volume of resources within a similar period.

According to him, the scale of revenue available to the present administration should have translated into more visible and measurable infrastructure and economic development across the state.

Nnaji also criticized what he described as excessive taxation and multiple levies imposed on businesses, arguing that the policy environment has discouraged industrial investment and compelled some entrepreneurs to relocate their operations to neighboring South-East states.

He expressed concern that the departure of businesses has negatively affected job creation, economic growth, and opportunities for young people in the state.

The former minister further challenged narratives portraying Enugu as experiencing unprecedented economic transformation, insisting that the realities on the ground do not reflect such claims.

Addressing recent allegations and political attacks directed at him, Nnaji stated that attempts to discredit his reputation would not distract him from his political aspirations or his commitment to participating in the 2027 governorship election.

Declaring himself the leader of what he termed the “Recover Enugu Committee,” Nnaji said the movement is dedicated to promoting accountability, transparency, and responsible governance in the state.

He emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes the welfare of future generations, arguing that sustainable development must be driven by prudent management of public resources and policies that encourage investment, job creation, and economic prosperity.
