Court Dismisses Suit Seeking to Stop Goodluck Jonathan From Contesting 2027 Presidential Election
The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has dismissed a suit seeking to stop former President Goodluck Jonathan from contesting the 2027 presidential election.
In its ruling, the court held that Jonathan remains eligible to run for the presidency, relying on earlier judgments delivered by the Federal High Court in Yenagoa and a subsequent decision of the Court of Appeal.
The case had sought to challenge his eligibility, but the court ruled that the legal basis for the suit was not sufficient to disqualify the former president from participating in future elections.
The judgment is expected to further fuel political discussions ahead of the 2027 general elections, as interest continues to build around possible contenders and party alignments.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official reaction from former President Goodluck Jonathan or his legal representatives regarding the ruling.
