Wike Urges Nigerians to Reject Election Rigging, Ballot Snatching Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has urged Nigerians to uphold democratic principles by voting peacefully and resisting any form of electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a media chat in Abuja, Wike emphasized that citizens have the right to support and vote for candidates of their choice but must do so within the bounds of the law.

According to the minister, credible elections can only be achieved when voters reject practices that undermine the integrity of the electoral process, including ballot snatching, vote manipulation, intimidation, and election rigging.

“Vote for your preferred candidate and avoid ballot snatching and election rigging,” Wike stated while addressing issues relating to governance, democracy, and the country's political future.

The former Rivers State governor stressed that the strength of any democracy depends on the ability of citizens to freely express their choices through the ballot box without interference or unlawful influence.

His remarks come at a time when political activities are gradually intensifying across the country, with parties, aspirants, and stakeholders already positioning themselves for future electoral contests.

Wike further called on political actors, security agencies, electoral officials, and voters to play their respective roles in ensuring peaceful, transparent, and credible elections.

Political analysts have described the statement as a reminder of the importance of protecting the sanctity of the ballot and preserving public confidence in Nigeria's democratic institutions.

As preparations for future elections gather momentum, concerns about electoral violence, voter suppression, and political manipulation continue to dominate national conversations, making calls for peaceful participation increasingly significant.
