Thaddeus Attah Faces Backlash Over Party Switch Ahead of 2027 Re-election Bid

Thaddeus Attah, the House of Representatives member representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, has come under public scrutiny following his recent political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.

Attah, who won his seat in 2023 under the Labour Party after defeating prominent contenders including Banky W and Babajide Obanikoro with 24,075 votes, has since moved through multiple political platforms.

Reports indicate that he left the Labour Party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in April 2026 and later joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) on May 5, alongside a group of lawmakers believed to be aligned with the political direction of Peter Obi.

His movements have sparked controversy, with critics accusing him of inconsistency and alleging past alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing circulated images showing him wearing APC-branded attire. Critics argue this raises questions about his political loyalty and intentions ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, Attah has denied any formal affiliation with the APC, insisting that his political journey has remained focused on community development and representation. He has pointed to his ongoing constituency projects, particularly in infrastructure development and job creation, as evidence of his commitment to his constituents.

Supporters of the lawmaker argue that his decisions align with broader political realignments within opposition politics and maintain that he remains committed to the political ideology associated with Peter Obi’s movement.

As debates continue, political observers say the development highlights the growing fluidity in party affiliations ahead of the 2027 general elections and the increasing scrutiny faced by elected officials regarding their political consistency and loyalty.
