Tensions Emerge in APC Enugu Over Local Government Primary Elections
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State is reportedly facing internal tensions following the outcome of its local government primary elections in several council areas across the state.
According to party sources, disagreements have surfaced over candidate selections, zoning arrangements, and the alleged replacement of some serving local government chairmen during the primary process.
Reports indicate that serving chairmen in areas such as Igbo Etiti, Udenu, and Igboeze North were not returned through the primaries, a development that has allegedly generated dissatisfaction among some party faithful.
An anonymous party member also alleged that concerns have been raised in Oji River Local Government Area, where a serving chairman seeking another term is reportedly facing opposition from members who argue that proper zoning arrangements were not followed.
Similar complaints were also said to have emerged from other parts of the state, including Udi Local Government Area, where some stakeholders are reportedly questioning the fairness of the primary process.
Some aggrieved members have threatened to challenge the outcomes, insisting that internal democracy, equity, and zoning principles should be respected within the party.
As of the time of filing this report, the Enugu State chapter of the APC has not issued an official statement regarding the allegations and complaints surrounding the primaries.
Political observers say the situation could test party unity ahead of future political engagements if unresolved.
