Ondo Ready for State Police, Says Aiyedatiwa
The Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has declared that the state is ready for the creation of state police as part of ongoing national discussions on security restructuring in Nigeria.
Aiyedatiwa made the statement while speaking on security reforms, noting that Ondo State has the capacity and institutional readiness to operate a sub-national policing system effectively.
He explained that the push for state police aligns with efforts to strengthen grassroots security, improve intelligence gathering, and respond more quickly to emerging threats across communities.
The governor added that decentralised policing would complement existing federal security structures and enhance overall safety and stability in the country.
His remarks come amid growing national debate on constitutional amendments aimed at allowing states to establish and manage their own police forces.
