Nigerians React as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Releases Emotional Children’s Day Message Late at Night

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu stirred reactions across social media after releasing a detailed and emotional Children’s Day message at about 10:27 PM on May 27, 2026, addressing the condition, safety, and future of Nigerian children.

In the statement, the President celebrated every Nigerian child, including children excelling academically, those learning trades, children living with disabilities, and children facing difficult life circumstances but still holding onto hope.

The President described Nigerian children as:

“The pride of our Republic, the custodians of tomorrow’s promise, and the living reminder that we can shape the future of Nigeria by the opportunities we create for our children today.”

The message also touched deeply on the insecurity affecting parts of the country, especially children and teachers reportedly held captive in parts of Oyo and Borno States. Tinubu assured affected families that the government has not forgotten them and vowed to intensify rescue operations and strengthen school protection measures nationwide.

He further directed security agencies and the Federal Ministry of Education to strengthen the Safe Schools framework, improve emergency response systems around schools, and provide proper rehabilitation and reintegration support for children affected by violence, abduction, and displacement.

Many Nigerians online reacted to the late-night address with mixed emotions.

Some citizens praised the President for speaking compassionately about vulnerable children and acknowledging the pain of affected families. Others commended the emphasis on inclusion, school safety, and trauma support.

Several supporters described the statement as “fatherly,” saying it reflected concern for children across different social backgrounds.

However, critics argued that beyond speeches, Nigerians want visible improvements in security, education, and child welfare policies. Some social media users questioned why many children still face insecurity, poor learning conditions, and economic hardship despite repeated promises from government officials.

The President also called on parents, teachers, traditional rulers, youth groups, transport unions, religious leaders, vigilantes, and the media to work together with security agencies to protect children before attacks occur.

The 2026 Children’s Day theme, “Future Now: Promoting Inclusion for Every Nigerian Child,” was a major focus of the President’s message, as he emphasized that childhood should never become a privilege for only a few Nigerians.

The statement has continued to generate conversations online, with many Nigerians hoping that the promises made will translate into practical action that improves the lives and safety of children across Nigeria.
