NDC Governorship Candidate Picks Kwankwaso’s Son as Running Mate for 2027 Kano Election
The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kano State, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has selected Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso as his deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election.
The announcement was confirmed on Monday by Kwankwasiyya spokesperson, Habibu Saleh Mohammed, who disclosed that the unveiling of the ticket had been concluded.
Mustapha Kwankwaso, the son of former Kano State Governor and prominent political leader Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, previously served as Commissioner for Youths and Sports in Kano State before resigning from the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
His resignation came amid political differences between Governor Yusuf and his father, Rabiu Kwankwaso. While stepping down from office, Mustapha expressed appreciation to the governor for the opportunity to serve and highlighted the experiences gained during his tenure.
Political observers believe the choice of Mustapha Kwankwaso is a strategic move aimed at strengthening the NDC's grassroots appeal and leveraging the influence of the Kwankwasiyya political movement ahead of the 2027 governorship contest in Kano State.
The development comes as political parties continue to reposition and build alliances in preparation for what is expected to be a fiercely contested election cycle across the country.
