Insecurity in Plateau Orchestrated to Keep State Poor — Gov Mutfwang
The Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, has alleged that the insecurity in the state is being orchestrated by enemies aimed at keeping the state in perpetual poverty and undermining its economic progress.
Speaking at a Democracy Day town hall meeting in Jos, the governor said the persistent violence and displacement of residents are part of a broader plan to destabilise the state and frustrate development efforts.
He stated that his administration sees it as its responsibility to reposition Plateau State for productivity and economic growth, despite ongoing security challenges.
According to him, the state government is actively working to change negative perceptions and attract investors, noting that Plateau still enjoys strong patronage in key sectors such as hospitality, despite insecurity concerns.
Mutfwang further maintained that his administration will not negotiate with criminals or armed groups, insisting that security agencies must continue sustained operations to restore peace across affected communities.
He added that ongoing security interventions, in collaboration with security agencies, traditional rulers, and local stakeholders, have led to arrests and improved intelligence gathering, which are helping to uncover wider criminal networks.
The governor reiterated that his government remains committed to restoring stability and ensuring that Plateau State becomes safe for residents, businesses, and investors.
