FG Declares May 27 and May 28, 2026 as Public Holidays for Eid-ul-Adha Celebration
The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, and Thursday, May 28, 2026, as public holidays in observance of the Eid-ul-Adha celebration.
The announcement follows the annual Islamic festival, which is celebrated by Muslims across the country and around the world with prayers, acts of charity, and the symbolic sacrifice in line with religious tradition.
Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to obey God’s command, and is observed with communal prayers and family gatherings.
The Federal Government urged Nigerians to use the holiday period to promote peace, unity, and mutual understanding among citizens, while also encouraging everyone to remain security conscious during the festive season.
Security agencies are expected to maintain heightened vigilance across the country to ensure safety before, during, and after the celebrations.
The declaration provides an opportunity for Muslim faithful and all Nigerians to reflect, celebrate, and strengthen national harmony.
