Eid al-Adha Holidays Expected to Begin This Week in Nigeria
The Eid al-Adha (Eid-el-Kabir) celebration is expected to take place in Nigeria this week, following current Islamic calendar projections.
As of Monday, 25 May 2026, the festival is widely expected to fall on Wednesday, 27 May 2026, with a potential public holiday extending to Thursday, 28 May 2026, in line with Nigeria’s usual tradition of observing two days for the celebration.
Eid al-Adha is one of the most significant Islamic festivals, marked by prayers, thanksgiving, and the symbolic sacrifice of rams, commemorating the obedience of Prophet Ibrahim.
However, the final confirmation of the exact date and public holiday schedule remains subject to official announcement by the Federal Government of Nigeria and the National Moon Sighting Committee.
Citizens are advised to await formal declaration before making final holiday arrangements.
