EFCC Investigates Self-Acclaimed Prophet Over Alleged N70.3 Million Fraud in Enugu

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Enugu Zonal Directorate, have launched an investigation into the alleged fraudulent activities of self-acclaimed prophet, Godwin Sunday Ajuluchukwucheya, also known as Prophet Sunday Koboko, over an alleged N70,391,600 fraud involving members of his ministry.

According to the EFCC, a petitioner, Okey Uwakwe, alleged that the suspect portrayed himself as a powerful spiritual leader capable of influencing supernatural outcomes, including facilitating the return of his brother who had been abroad since 1997 and helping his childless sister-in-law conceive after years without a child.

The petitioner claimed he paid the suspect over N13 million for various “spiritual works,” including payments linked to alleged miracles, a supposed N33 billion lotto winnings, and a proposed rice processing business investment.

Investigators further revealed that several other members of the ministry came forward with similar complaints, alleging that the suspect convinced them to contribute money through various schemes, including the purchase of items described as “miracle stickers,” “spiritual dragons,” and “holy ghost thunder,” which were presented as pathways to prosperity and solutions to personal challenges.

One victim alleged that members were told to buy thousands of “holy ghost thunder” items at N38,000 each to spiritually battle forces preventing the release of a claimed N33 billion lottery prize.

The EFCC stated that the total amount allegedly collected from members of the ministry stands at N70,391,600.

The anti-graft agency said investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of its inquiries.

The case has once again raised concerns over the activities of individuals who allegedly exploit religious beliefs and the vulnerability of followers for financial gain.
