Chaos, Allegations, and Turnouts Mark NDC Primaries Across Enugu, Lagos, Zamfara and Anambra

The ongoing primaries of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have continued to generate mixed reactions across different parts of the country, with reports of delays, organisational concerns, and competing claims of victory emerging from various constituencies.

In Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory race, reports indicate that activist Aisha Yesufu has reportedly withdrawn from the senatorial contest ahead of the party’s selection process, though official confirmation from the party is still awaited.

In Enugu State, reports from multiple venues including Emmanuel Church, Achara Layout, and St. Mulumba Church, New Haven, suggest delays in accreditation, absence of some electoral officials, and rising tension among party members awaiting the commencement of primaries for Enugu North and Enugu South constituencies.

Some party supporters alleged irregularities and attempted disruptions, while others insisted that the process must proceed transparently and that every vote should count. However, these claims remain unverified as official statements from INEC and NDC electoral committees have not been released.

In another development in Enugu, an NDC House of Representatives aspirant, Mazi Ezeaku Mathias, raised concerns over alleged manipulation of results in Uzo-Uwani/Igbo-Eze North/Igbo-Etiti federal constituency, claiming that officials abandoned the process midway. The party has yet to respond publicly to the allegation.

Despite the reported tensions in some areas, other parts of the state reportedly witnessed counting processes and ongoing collation, with supporters expressing optimism over the conduct of the exercise.

Elsewhere, in Zamfara State, Senator Marafa has reportedly clinched the NDC governorship ticket, while in Anambra North Senatorial District, Tony Nwoye is said to have emerged victorious in the party’s primary.

In Lagos State, particularly Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, the primaries reportedly witnessed strong turnout, with party members participating actively in the selection process.

The varying reports highlight both the competitiveness and organizational challenges of the NDC primaries as the party moves closer to finalizing its candidates for the 2027 general elections.

As of the time of filing this report, the NDC has yet to issue a comprehensive national summary of the primaries across all states.
