Breakthrough in Abuja: Heavily Pregnant Supplier and Cook to Notorious Kidnap Syndicate Arrested in FCT, Delivers Baby Boy in Police Custody
ABUJA, NIGERIA — The sustained tactical crackdown against violent crimes and banditry networks in Nigeria's capital has yielded another major breakthrough. In an official press briefing hosted at the Command Headquarters, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Sanusi, confirmed the successful execution of a well-coordinated anti-kidnapping and rescue raid that effectively neutralized an active operational cell terrorizing the outskirts of the territory.
According to the police chief, the surgical operation was carried out by elite tactical units on June 9, 2026, within the Paze–Byazhin area of the FCT. The raid resulted in the immediate apprehension of four principal suspects criminally networked into the cell. The police identified the arrested suspects as Yahaya Abdullahi, Muhammed Yunusa, Shamsudeen Mustapha, and a female accomplice, Hauwa Shafiu. Preliminary investigations have already established that the tightly knit syndicate has been actively masterminding coordinates for kidnappings, collecting ransoms, and launching banditry raids across the border communities of the FCT.
Deconstructed details from the police interrogation room revealed the highly specialized role played by the female suspect, Hauwa Shafiu. Investigators discovered that she served as the critical logistics backbone for the criminal network, taking charge of procuring vital supplies, managing outposts, and preparing meals for both the armed gang members and their heavily traumatized hostages at their hideouts.
Remarkably, Shafiu was heavily pregnant at the exact time of her tactical arrest by the police. While being held in custody during the ongoing investigation, she went into labor and successfully delivered a healthy baby boy. Addressing potential human rights and humanitarian concerns, CP Ahmed Sanusi emphasized that the police command acted with utmost professionalism, ensuring that adequate, round-the-clock medical attention and neonatal care were fully provided to both the detained mother and her newborn child.
The successful raid did not only lead to the arrest of the human components of the gang but also resulted in the recovery of a wide array of operational tools, heavily implicating electronic evidence, and illicit narcotics used to fuel their operations.
Items recovered and paraded by the FCT Command include:
Four operational motorcycles used for navigating difficult forest terrains.
A stock of illicit performance enhancers and narcotics, specifically thirty-one pieces of 500mg Tramadol tablets and ten pieces of 50mg Tramadol tablets.
Three hundred and twenty thousand Naira (N320,000.00) in hard cash, suspected to be part of recent illicit transactions.
Five mobile smartphones used for ransom negotiations and coordination.
One Point of Sale (POS) machine used for executing illicit financial movements.
A collection of cooking utensils utilized by the female suspect in the camp.
CP Sanusi reaffirmed the unyielding commitment of the FCT Police Command to permanently flush out criminal elements from the capital, assuring residents that all four suspects will be formally arraigned in a court of competent jurisdiction immediately after the completion of comprehensive investigations.
