Aisha Yesufu Challenges Fears, Engages FCT Residents Ahead of NDC Senate Primaries
As the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) prepares for its primary elections, prominent human and gender rights activist Aisha Yesufu has stepped up her campaign for the FCT Senate seat. On May 27, 2026, Yesufu embarked on a series of consultations across Abaji, Kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and Kuje, meeting with party leaders, women groups, youths, and community representatives.
Addressing residents, Yesufu stressed that elections are won through direct engagement and empathy, not social media propaganda or orchestrated smear campaigns. She encouraged FCT voters to exercise courage in their choices, underscoring the mantra: “Power belongs to the people.”
During her visits, Yesufu focused on understanding pressing local challenges, including insecurity, unemployment, poor roads, inadequate healthcare, limited access to quality education, and insufficient water supply. She emphasized that effective leadership must prioritize the welfare and voices of residents, ensuring that policy decisions reflect community needs.
“The future of the Federal Capital Territory depends on the collective strength, unity, and voices of its people. My visit to your communities is not just to seek your votes, but to listen, understand your challenges, and work together towards a better and more inclusive FCT,” she said.
Yesufu pledged to continue people-oriented engagement, promising that her legislative agenda will focus on security, economic empowerment, and quality infrastructure. She encouraged FCT residents to participate actively in strengthening party structures ahead of the primaries and the 2027 general elections.
Party leaders and community stakeholders who interacted with Yesufu lauded her courage, resilience, and commitment to justice and good governance. Many pledged their support, highlighting her consistency as an advocate for accountability and public service.
The consultations concluded with renewed determination among party members to mobilize support for Yesufu during the NDC primaries and contribute to the party’s broader success in the upcoming elections.
