Tragedy in Igbo-Etiti: Man Allegedly Kills Sister and Niece in Disturbing Family Violence Incident

The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident in Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area involving the alleged killing of a woman and her young daughter by a family member.

According to preliminary reports, at about 3:18 PM on May 15, 2026, operatives of the Command’s Distress Response Squad responded to a distress call from Agu-Ekwegbe Community.

It was gathered that a man identified as Joshua Eze allegedly attacked his sister, Nwabuche Eze, and her daughter, Favour Eze, with a cutlass, resulting in their deaths. The victims were reportedly rushed to a hospital where they were confirmed dead before their remains were deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

Preliminary investigations further suggest that the suspect allegedly buried the victims in a shallow grave, with reports indicating the presence of a dead white cock at the scene, raising suspicions of possible ritual-related motives. However, authorities have emphasized that investigations are still ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Community members reportedly intervened after locating the suspect, who was later found in critical condition and subsequently confirmed dead at the hospital.

The Police Command strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a deeply disturbing case of family violence, and has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances leading to the tragedy.

Residents have been urged not to take the law into their own hands, but to allow security agencies to handle all aspects of the investigation and ensure justice is served through lawful means.

The incident has thrown the Agu-Ekwegbe community into mourning, with many expressing shock over the violent nature of the attack.
