REPORTED RESIGNATION AND EFCC PROBE OF ENUGU TRANSPORT COMMISSIONER, DR. OBI OZOR, SPARKS TENSION IN MINISTRY
ENUGU, NIGERIA — Palpable tension has enveloped the Enugu State Ministry of Transport following unconfirmed reports regarding the resignation of the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor, under controversial circumstances.
Dr. Ozor, a former CEO and co-founder of the tech-logistics firm Kobo360 who was appointed by Governor Peter Mbah in August 2023, was allegedly directed to vacate his office by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Chidi Onyia. Reports indicate that the Commissioner’s office at the Ministry’s headquarters along Independence Layout, Enugu, has remained padlocked, preventing his access.
The development follows an investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after a petition was submitted concerning alleged financial irregularities. Dr. Ozor and his wife were reportedly questioned at the EFCC Enugu Zonal Office before being released after records reportedly verified no state funds were embezzled. However, upon attempting to resume duties, the Commissioner was instructed to step down and has since been absent from official duties and executive council meetings.
In the interim, reports state that a retired Permanent Secretary, Mr. Nnam Okoh, has been recalled to oversee operations at the Ministry of Transport. Neither Dr. Ozor nor state government spokespersons have issued an official public statement regarding the reported administrative shifts.
