PROTEST ROCKS NSUKKA AS PROTESTERS DEMAND ACCOUNTABILITY FROM LOCAL OFFICIALS AND STATE OFFICIALS

NSUKKA, ENUGU STATE — Tensions flared in Nsukka town as dozens of local residents, commercial motorcycle operators, and petty traders staged a public protest to express dissatisfaction over alleged exploitation and bad governance.

Gathering near the Nsukka Central Station and surrounding commercial areas, the protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as "We are all human beings" and "We are tired of this treatment." Demonstrators openly targeted local political figures, specifically directing chants against Hon. Emeka Mamah, whom they accused of political opportunism and criminal extortion.

Amidst chants rejecting major political parties—including slogans like "No more APC"—the crowd voiced deep frustration over high taxes, official harassment, and unfulfilled economic promises. Protesters called on state authorities and relevant oversight bodies to intervene, demanding systemic reforms, fairness for everyday workers, and an immediate end to official misconduct within Nsukka Local Government Area.
