POSTERITY WILL JUDGE YOU WELL": FIRST LADY REMI TINUBU COMMENDS NYESOM WIKE OVER ABUJA CITY GATE TRANSFORMATION

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has praised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for transforming the Abuja City Gate into a recreational and environmental landmark.

​Speaking at a ceremony at the State House where she presented Wike with a certificate of commendation for environmental initiatives under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Green Nigeria Challenge, the First Lady remarked that the remodelled entrance serves as a model for urban renewal.

​"The remodelled Abuja City Gate is an excellent example of what abandoned public areas can become: a transformed key national landmark that warmly welcomes all Nigerians and visitors to our nation's capital. When I saw what he did with the City Gate, my God, unbelievable. I want to thank him; he has done very well. Posterity will judge you well for the development of the FCT."

​Highlights of the Ceremony

​Green Nigeria Challenge Vision: Mrs. Tinubu explained that the transformation aligns with the Community Category of the RHI Green Nigeria Challenge, designed to encourage youth groups to reclaim neglected public spaces, dumpsites, and degraded areas into public parks and gardens.

​Disappointment Over State Participation: The First Lady expressed surprise that despite a ₦50 million prize earmarked to spur youth involvement across states in reclaiming public spaces, no state government entered the category.

​Wike's Response: Minister Nyesom Wike credited the First Lady's advocacy for inspiring the project, noting that she urged FCT leadership to draw lessons from international city gates to create eco-friendly public spaces for citizens to gather and relax.

​Call to Action for Governors' Wives: Senator Tinubu urged the wives of state governors to actively engage young people by establishing environmental clubs across schools and tertiary institutions.
