POLITICAL INTOLERANCE IN ENUGU: GOVERNMENT AGENCY ACCUSED OF ATTACKING CHIEF UCHE NNAJI’S CAMPAIGN OFFICE DESPITE PENDING COURT PROCESS
The political atmosphere in Enugu State has taken a contentious turn as operatives linked to a state government agency allegedly raided and vandalized the campaign headquarters of Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji Nwakaibeya along Abakaliki Road.
Video footage from the scene shows tore-down political banners, dismantled signage, and debris scattered across the entrance. According to the campaign team, the state agency enforced the demolition despite being served a formal Motion on Notice, choosing to act arbitrarily while the matter remained pending before a court of competent jurisdiction.
The campaign media team characterized the incident as a continuation of what it termed a "Destroy Enugu First Campaign," accusing the state administration of resorting to strong-arm tactics and administrative harassment to intimidate non-aligned political leaders. The incident follows a pattern of heightened political intolerance, including previous clashes over campaign logistics, venue approvals, and local election boycotts across the state.
Civic observers and legal practitioners have called on the Nigeria Police Force and independent electoral authorities to investigate the breach, emphasizing that all state agencies must respect sub-judice rules and due process. Political competition in Enugu State must remain peaceful, lawful, and issue-focused rather than degenerating into state-sponsored intimidation.
