PDP Counter-Fires as APC Governors Reject Wike’s Coalition: "Your Poor Governance and Electoral Fear are the Real Problems"
A high-stakes political war has erupted between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) state executives and the opposition apparatus, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially condemned the APC Governors’ Forum for attempting to reject political support provided by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Barrister Nyesom Wike.
The friction escalated following a late-night resolution in Abuja by the Progressive Governors Forum, chaired by Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma, declaring that APC governors would not endorse or participate in Wike’s cross-party "Rainbow Coalition" or any arrangement capable of threatening APC candidates at state levels.
Responding directly to the APC governors' stance, PDP National Publicity Secretary Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed issued a scathing press release asserting that the ruling party's internal panic exposes severe insecurity regarding their governance records.
The primary counter-arguments highlighting the political breakdown between the factions include:
Panic Over Poor Governance Performance: The PDP emphasized that Minister Nyesom Wike is not the cause of the APC governors' political anxiety. Instead, their hostility is driven by a fear that their failure to meet public expectations, manage FAAC allocations transparently, or fund local governments will be brutally exposed by voters at the 2027 polls.
Miscalculation of Electoral Realities: Demanding that political figures or cross-party alliances refrain from fielding strong opposition candidates against incumbent governors represents a fundamental misunderstanding of democratic contestation. The PDP asserted its absolute right to present formidable candidates for all elective positions nationwide.
Legitimacy of Wike’s Political Capital: The statement defended Wike’s democratic rights, pointing out that supporting President Bola Tinubu in his executive capacity does not require surrendering local PDP structures or abandoning party candidates across state and legislative races.
Rejection of Incumbent Intimidation: Challenging governors who claim confidence in their public goodwill, the opposition urged them to welcome open electoral contests rather than attempting to eliminate competition through political posturing, media blackmail, or administrative intimidation.
With state executives attempting to draw strict party lines and opposition forces mobilizing across key geopolitical zones, the public fallout signals a fiery prelude to the 2027 general elections. The PDP has made it clear that no amount of political rejection or executive maneuvering will prevent Ndi Nigeria from delivering their final verdict at the ballot box.
