NDC Primaries Produce Winners Across Rivers, Enugu, Imo, Lagos, Adamawa Amid Tension in Ebonyi
The ongoing primaries of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) have produced a fresh wave of candidates across several states as the party intensifies preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In Rivers State, businessman and political figure Opuda (Alabo) Dumo Lulu-Briggs reportedly emerged as the NDC governorship candidate following what he described as a peaceful and orderly primary exercise across the state.
In a statement after the exercise, Lulu-Briggs said he emerged unopposed in his local government area, Akuku-Toru, expressing gratitude to party members, delegates, and supporters for their confidence and unity during the process.
Meanwhile, in Enugu State, reports indicate that Chinyeaka Oha emerged as the NDC governorship candidate, while Ada Ogbu reportedly secured the party’s ticket for Enugu East Senatorial Zone. Mama Na Malaga was also announced as the party’s House of Representatives flagbearer for Enugu North/South Federal Constituency.
In Lagos State, Rotimi Obasanjo reportedly defeated Adedayo Ekong to emerge as the NDC House of Representatives candidate for Eti-Osa I Federal Constituency.
Elsewhere in Imo State, Nze Dr. and Barrister Isaac Ugochukwu Nwachukwu was declared winner of the NDC senatorial primaries for Imo North (Okigwe Senatorial District).
In Adamawa State, Hon. Aliyu Muhammad, popularly known as “Sarkin Mota HRS,” reportedly emerged victorious in the House of Representatives primaries for Yola North, Yola South, and Gerei Federal Constituency.
Reports from the Federal Capital Territory also indicated that Emma Ikumeh, popularly known as Obika, emerged victorious in the NDC primaries for AMAC and Bwari.
However, the primaries were not without controversy. In Ebonyi State, allegations surfaced claiming that some NDC members were prevented from conducting primary elections in Ishielu Local Government Area.
According to circulating claims, local political tensions and alleged interference disrupted the process, though no official statement had been issued by authorities at the time of filing this report.
Political observers note that the nationwide primaries continue to reveal both the growing influence of the NDC and the increasing intensity of political competition ahead of the 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, social media reactions and local political commentary have continued to trail some constituency contests, especially in Enugu State, where debates over legitimacy and conduct of certain primaries remain ongoing online.
As of the time of filing this report, the NDC national leadership had yet to release a comprehensive official list of all successful candidates nationwide.
