Kogi Varsity Student Gunned Down on Campus During Cult Clash
A 300-level student of Prince Abubakar Audu University (PAAU), Anyigba, Kogi State, identified as David Ocholi Solomon, has been killed in a violent confrontation involving suspected cult groups on campus.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday night during Final Year Brethren (FYB) celebrations, which attracted several students to the gathering.
According to eyewitness accounts, the trouble began when suspected cult members allegedly stormed the event and began issuing threats and intimidating students, causing panic among attendees.
The situation escalated after a confrontation between rival groups, leading to an exchange of violence in which gunshots were fired. Solomon was reportedly hit during the chaos and later died from his injuries.
Another individual identified as “Dior,” said to be linked to one of the groups involved, was also stabbed during the incident. He initially stood after being injured but later collapsed and died.
The suspected attacker reportedly fled the scene immediately after the incident, while other individuals attempted to retaliate but were unsuccessful.
Following the violence, the university management announced an immediate ban on all forms of celebrations on campus, including signing-out ceremonies, departmental gatherings, and related events, citing security concerns.
Authorities said the measure was necessary to restore order and ensure the safety of students and staff within the institution, while police are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
