"IF I DIE, HOLD APC RESPONSIBLE": PEACE MASS TRANSIT BOSS SAMUEL MADUKA ONYISHI BREAKS DOWN IN TEARS OVER CRUSHING TAXATION AT JOSTAC INAUGURATION

The inauguration of St. Joseph’s School of Technology and Creative Arts (JOSTAC) in Obollo-Afor, Udenu Local Government Area, became the backdrop for an emotional public outcry by one of Enugu State’s most prominent investors and philanthropists, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi (MON).

Addressing the congregation of religious leaders, community stakeholders, and citizens, the Chairman/CEO of Peace Mass Transit and founder of Maduka University revealed the extreme financial and psychological pressure he faces due to aggressive tax demands levied against his multi-billion Naira educational investments.

In a moment that stunned attendees, Dr. Onyishi recounted how heavy tax assessments slapped on his university left him overwhelmed and weeping. He described rushing directly to the Catholic Bishop of Nsukka, Most Rev. Prof. Godfrey Igwebuike Onah, for prayers and spiritual comfort. He noted that as the Bishop prayed and tried to console him, he wept uncontrollably over what he described as an oppressive environment designed to suffocate local enterprise.

Dr. Onyishi's public breakdown highlights the crippling reality of predatory taxation in Enugu State and across the nation. Observers and civic commentators noted that if an investor of Dr. Onyishi's immense wealth, resources, and philanthropic footprint is driven to tears and fears for his life over government tax demands, ordinary small business owners, market traders, and low-income citizens across Enugu State are facing an even more suffocating economic crisis under current policies.
