HORROR IN ENUGU: POLICE ARREST 30-YEAR-OLD MAN FOR GRUESOME MURDER OF GIRLFRIEND CONCEALED IN TOILET

Residents of Olympic Layout in the One-Day axis of Enugu State were thrown into shock and horror following the gruesome murder of a young woman inside her partner's residence.

​The Enugu State Police Command, through its spokesperson SP Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed that officers attached to the Awkunanaw Division arrested 30-year-old Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel on September 21 after rescuing him from an enraged mob that forced their way into his apartment.

​Preliminary police investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly killed his girlfriend, identified simply as Chinyere, on September 19 following an argument over health-related accusations. During interrogation, Emmanuel confessed to striking the victim on the head with a pestle, inflicting fatal injuries, before wrapping her corpse in nylon bags and hiding her remains inside his toilet.

​The crime came to light days later when the unbearable stench of the decomposing body alerted neighbors, who forced open the door, apprehended the suspect, and alerted police authorities. The putrefying remains have been evacuated to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy while police work to trace her relatives. Enugu State Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a discreet and comprehensive investigation to ensure the suspect faces full prosecution under the law.
