FORCED TRANSFERS AND ABANDONED SITE: NDĺ ENUGU SLAM GOVERNMENT OVER DISRUPTIVE “SMART GREEN SCHOOL” IMPLEMENTATION

The administrative execution of Governor Peter Mbah’s Smart Green School initiative faces intense scrutiny from parents, education stakeholders, and civic observers across Enugu State.

A viral video from a local public school assembly highlights growing resistance against the government's policy of pulling students out of established schools to populate newly designated "smart" facilities. Speakers in the video criticized the practice of transferring entire student populations without providing basic essentials like new uniforms or ensuring that the target facilities are fully operational.

Critics argue that rather than building sustainable educational infrastructure from scratch or systematically upgrading existing public schools, the state government is executing a top-down mandate that forces young children to commute long distances—sometimes up to 8 to 10 kilometers—to reach newly assigned smart school sites.

Educators and local commentators have warned that closing down existing public schools and concentrating resources on a fraction of new smart hubs risks driving thousands of low-income children out of school entirely or forcing them into unregulated private institutions. Coupled with ongoing scandals over contract awards, substandard construction work on finished sites, and poor teacher remuneration, Ndi Enugu are calling for an immediate policy shift toward transparent, practical, and accessible public education reform.
