ESUT IMPOSES ₦500,000 FINE ON RECKLESS DRIVING BY FINAL-YEAR STUDENTS FOLLOWING GRADUATION BACKLASH

The management of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Agbani, has instituted a strict ₦500,000 financial penalty on any student caught driving recklessly within or around the university premises during and after final examinations.

​The stringent measure follows growing concerns over dangerous motorcades, high-speed car stunts, and disruptive celebrations frequently organized by graduating students following their final papers. University authorities noted that such reckless displays pose severe safety hazards to pedestrians, fellow students, and staff, while damaging campus infrastructure and disrupting academic activities.

​Under the new directive, any student found violating traffic safety rules, engaging in dangerous driving maneuvers, or endangering lives on campus roads will be fined ₦500,000, alongside potential disciplinary action under the university's code of conduct. The university administration emphasized that campus security personnel, in collaboration with traffic enforcement agencies, have been mandated to impound offending vehicles and immediately hand over violators for administrative sanctions.

​Reaffirming its commitment to maintaining order and protecting lives, the ESUT management urged graduating students to celebrate their academic achievements responsibly without compromising safety or bringing disrepute to the institution.
