ENUGU POLICE ARREST FOUR SUSPECTED NBM CULTISTS AND ARMED ROBBERS, RECOVER FIREARMS AND STOLEN ITEMS

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have apprehended four suspected members of the Neo-Black Movement of Africa (NBM/Aye) cult group involved in armed robbery and cult-related activities in separate tactical operations.

​The crackdown led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, a pick-handle axe, a knife, and a stolen Samsung A12 smartphone.

​Hotel Robbery at Independence Layout

​According to statement details released by Command Public Relations Officer SP Daniel Ndukwe, the first breakthrough occurred following an incident at a hotel in Independence Layout, Enugu. Police operatives initially arrested 20-year-old Okafor Timothy on July 26, 2026, recovering a knife from him.

​During questioning, Timothy confessed to participating in a robbery at the hotel where he and an accomplice dispossessed a guest of a Samsung A12 smartphone and inflicted a finger injury on another victim. Acting on Timothy's confessional statement, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) tracked down and arrested his fleeing accomplice, 24-year-old Ndubuisi Chigozie (alias "Sky B"), on July 27, recovering a pick-handle axe and the stolen mobile phone.

​Operational Arrests in Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti

​In a separate operational sweep conducted on July 26, police officers attached to the Igbo-Etiti Division—supported by community intelligence—intercepted two additional suspects in Ukehe, Igbo-Etiti Local Government Area.

​The suspects, identified as Chibuike Stanley Odoh (20) and Ezekiel Ozoeze (30), were found in possession of a locally made pistol along with an expended cartridge. Upon interrogation, both suspects confessed to their active membership in the Aye (NBM) confraternity.

​The Enugu State Police Command confirmed that discreet investigations remain ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the syndicate and recover additional arms. All four suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.
