BREAKING: Gombe Rep Yaya Tongo Dies in Abuja

The member representing Kwami/Funakaye/Gombe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Yaya Tongo, has been confirmed dead in Abuja.

Tongo, who was elected to the Green Chamber in 2023 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) before later defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in 2026, reportedly passed away on Friday, June 12, 2026.

His death was made public by former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, via a post on his verified X account.

According to Pantami, the lawmaker had been receiving treatment at Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja, where he was visited earlier in the day before his passing was later announced.

He noted that the condition of the late legislator was critical at the time of the visit, expressing shock over the news of his death a few hours later.

Pantami also offered prayers for the deceased, asking God to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest in Jannatul Firdaus, while also praying for comfort for his family and loved ones.

Further details surrounding the cause of death were not immediately disclosed.
