Concerns over fiscal transparency and project delivery have resurfaced across Enugu State as citizens and public affairs commentators continue to audit the track record of Governor Peter Mbah's administration. The renewed criticism follows fresh scrutiny of high-profile industrial announcements, including the state’s ₦100 billion joint venture deal signed with Pragmatic Palms Limited to resuscitate the long-dormant United Palm Products Limited (UPPL) across plantations in Ugwuoba, Umulokpa, and Ibite Olo.

Reacting to the ongoing public debate, a Edinburgh-based political analyst and indigene of Amodu Awkunanaw in Nkanu West Local Government Area expressed deep disappointment over what he described as a pattern of political posturing and reckless expenditure of state resources. The analyst argued that despite repeated media campaigns, press releases, and grand promises to grow Enugu State’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30 billion, the daily realities for local residents reflect persistent economic strain, unfinished infrastructure, and unfulfilled job promises.

The commentator specifically cited past government pronouncements—ranging from agricultural joint ventures like UPPL to industrial facility launches like Niger Gas—asserting that many of these initiatives have failed to deliver their advertised socio-economic impacts on the ground. He noted that while hundreds of billions of naira are routinely cited in official announcements, ordinary citizens across Enugu State continue to struggle with high living costs, inadequate public services, and lack of verified employment for the youth. "Ndi Enugu must wake up and hold this administration accountable," the Amodu Awkunanaw native stated. "From 2023 to date, we have seen an endless stream of grand signing ceremonies and 'audio' projects that sound impressive on paper but offer zero tangible benefits to our communities. Funneling state resources and public goodwill into white-elephant deals that are dead on arrival is unfair to taxpayers. It is time for our people to demand total financial accountability and reject governance by public relations."

Calling for organized civic monitoring, the UK-based scholar urged civil society groups, community leaders, and indigenous associations across the three senatorial districts to demand full audit disclosures on all public-private partnerships entered into since 2023.
