ASUU UNCROSS Declares Indefinite Strike Over University Funding Crisis
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) UNCROSS faction has announced an indefinite strike action following what it described as the continued neglect of Nigeria’s public university system.
According to the union, the decision became necessary due to unresolved issues surrounding inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, and worsening welfare conditions for academic staff across institutions.
The union leadership stated that repeated engagements with relevant authorities have not yielded meaningful results, leading to the decision to suspend academic activities indefinitely.
They further expressed concern that the ongoing challenges in the education sector are affecting teaching quality, research output, and overall academic stability in universities nationwide.
The union has called on the federal government to urgently address its demands in order to restore normal academic operations and prevent further disruption to the academic calendar.
Students across affected institutions are expected to be impacted as the strike takes effect, while stakeholders continue to call for immediate dialogue between both parties.
