Armed Assailants Abduct Pupils and Teachers in Multiple School Attacks in Oyo State
Security tension has heightened in Oyo State following reports of coordinated attacks on multiple schools in Oriire Local Government Area on Friday, during which armed assailants abducted pupils and teachers.
According to reports, the affected schools include Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Community Grammar School Esiele, and L.A. Primary School.
It was gathered that the attackers stormed the schools in separate but coordinated incidents, causing panic among students, staff, and surrounding communities. Early reports indicate that no fewer than 45 pupils were affected during the incidents, though official confirmation from authorities is still being awaited.
Security sources say the assailants fled the scenes after the attacks and were later tracked to nearby forest areas believed to be within a reserve bordering Oriire communities and the Old Oyo National Park axis.
In response, security operatives have reportedly intensified search operations and mounted surveillance around possible escape routes in an effort to rescue the abducted victims and apprehend the perpetrators.
The incidents have triggered growing concern among residents and stakeholders in Oyo State, with calls for strengthened protection of schools and improved security presence in rural and forest-adjacent communities.
Authorities are expected to provide further updates as rescue operations continue.
