Amaechi Rejects ADC Presidential Primary Results, Alleges Widespread Disenfranchisement
Former Minister of Transportation and presidential aspirant, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has rejected the outcome of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential primary election, describing the announced results as “concocted.”
In a strongly worded statement released after the primaries, Amaechi alleged that the exercise was marred by widespread voter disenfranchisement and irregularities across several parts of the country.
According to him, he had earlier made it clear that he would only accept the outcome of the election if the process was free, fair, and transparent.
“I unequivocally reject the concocted results being announced,” Amaechi stated, insisting that the exercise failed to reflect the democratic values the ADC claimed to represent.
The former Rivers State governor further alleged that a significant percentage of party members were allegedly prevented from participating in the voting process.
“There’s no way that about eighty percent of members of the party were not allowed to vote, and you expect me to accept such results,” he said.
Amaechi also criticized what he described as electoral malpractices within the party, including alleged vote buying, result manipulation, and voter suppression, arguing that the ADC cannot claim to offer Nigerians an alternative while allegedly engaging in practices similar to those it condemns in other political parties.
“A party that criticizes the ruling APC and INEC for vote buying, rigging and writing of results cannot be engaged in the same acts,” he added.
The statement comes amid growing controversy surrounding the ADC presidential primaries, which have already triggered reactions from aspirants and stakeholders over the credibility of the process.
Political observers believe the development could deepen internal tensions within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
