ADC Picks Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Election

The National Leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially unveiled Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as the party’s Vice-Presidential Candidate for the 2027 general election alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

According to a statement signed by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the decision followed extensive consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women groups, as well as stakeholders from across Nigeria's geopolitical zones.

The party noted that Amaechi earned the nomination after emerging as runner-up in the ADC presidential primary election, where he reportedly secured significant support from party members nationwide.

ADC described the Atiku-Amaechi alliance as a coming together of two experienced political leaders with the capacity, national reach, and leadership credentials required to address Nigeria's pressing challenges, including insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment, and national disunity.

Highlighting Amaechi's political journey, the party recalled his service as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and later Minister of Transportation, where he oversaw major rail and transportation projects across the country.

The party further stated that Amaechi's influence in the South-South region and his experience in governance would complement Atiku's leadership credentials and strengthen the ADC's chances in the 2027 presidential contest.

ADC expressed confidence that the partnership would inspire Nigerians seeking competent leadership and provide a credible alternative ahead of the next general election.

The party also called on members, coalition partners, civil society organizations, youth groups, women leaders, and Nigerians of goodwill to unite behind the ticket as preparations intensify for the 2027 presidential election.

However, as of the time of filing this report, there has been no independent confirmation from Rotimi Amaechi, or the official ADC leadership beyond the circulated statement.
